About Our Berber-Owned Desert Camp in Erg Chigaga

Meet the team behind ATTA Desert Camp and its Erg Chigaga luxury camp near M'Hamid: who we are, how we run the camp and how we look after the desert.

About us

About us: a camp built around the desert and the people who know it

We do not just pitch tents. We build places where the dunes are quiet and the night sky feels close. At Erg Chigaga Luxury Camp we blend wilderness and warmth, so you leave with memories rather than a checklist.

“We’re not ‘staff’—we’re storytellers who know every grain of this desert.”Lahcen, founder and camp director, M’Hamid native

Lahcen leads a team of local Sahrawi and Berber hosts who combine deep knowledge of the desert with hospitality skills learned in Marrakech riads. You deal with the same people from your first inquiry to your last evening around the campfire.

How we host

About us: your guides and hosts

  • One team, start to finish

From your first inquiry to the campfire farewell, the same team plans and looks after your stay.

  • Small touches

Cold towels after a dune walk, and surprise birthday msemen pastries when there is something to celebrate.

  • Rooted locally

We support nomadic schools and desert water projects in the area we call home.

What to expect

What to expect when you stay with us

Here is about us in practice: what our team looks after for every guest, whichever of the four camps you choose. We have welcomed guests to Erg Chigaga since 2010.

  • Meals: breakfast and dinner are included in every rate. Lunch and drinks cost extra.
  • The crossing: our own Toyota Land Cruisers cover the last 60 km off-road from M’Hamid. There is no mobile signal at the camp, so we plan your arrival with you.
  • Languages: we reply in English, French and Arabic, by email or WhatsApp.

Days and evenings

Days and evenings with the team

Sandboarding, music around the campfire and nomad visits by 4WD are included in your rate. Camel rides, stargazing and quad biking are optional extras, and we also arrange multi-day camel treks of 3 to 11 days.

That is about us in a few lines. For the full picture, compare the four camps, browse the activities or read the frequently asked questions.

Our desert promise

Treading lightly on the sands

Luxury and ecology belong together in the desert. We keep learning from the nomads and the wind. This is how we look after the Sahara today.

  • Leave no trace

Every wrapper and bottle goes out with us. Bins are provided, and nothing touches the dunes but footprints.

  • Plastic gets a second life

Recycled plastic bottles are turned into school benches for nomad children.

  • Waste feeds life

Vegetable scraps and bread crusts go to our camp camels or to nearby nomadic families.

  • Solar power

The camp runs on solar power, with batteries storing daytime energy for tent lighting, camera charging and the midnight mint tea.

  • Water wisdom

Filtered water in glass bottles instead of plastic, quick-dry hammam towels that save water, and showers designed not to waste it.

  • Guided by elders

Berber elders guide how we work, from dune paths that avoid fragile ground to sustainably sourced firewood.

“We walk where our grandparents walked. To harm a dune is to harm our soul.”Said, camp elder, M’Hamid
